suddenly remembered this poem as i was making breakfast this morning & frantically googled “poem remembered to buy eggs?????????” & somehow managed to find it & it utterly knocked the wind out of me just as much as when i first read it
But imagine if you lived in a country where the color of your skin got you killed for driving, jogging, sleeping, yelling, parking, babysitting, sitting in a van, selling CDs, selling cigarettes, opening the door, walking at night, wearing a hoodie at night, holding a toy gun, lying on the ground, being homeless, being in a dark stairwell, holding a cell phone, having a broken taillight, exercising horses, having a bottle of pills, shopping at Walmart, holding a BB gun at Walmart, holding a phone in your own backyard, eating ice cream in your own house, and shopping, you would say, “That is a lawless country.”
look. i don’t think my stretch marks are beautiful. i don’t think they’re tiger stripes or natural tattooos. i don’t think my acne is beautiful. i don’t think the bags under my eyes are beautiful. i just think they’re human. and i don’t think i have to be beautiful all of the time in order to be accepted and loved and sucessful. i don’t think every small detail of my outer appearence needs to be translated into prettiness.
fun fact: this POV is actually called “body neutrality” and it’s SO MUCH more accessible/realistic for a lot of people. it’s based on the idea that the way we look is the least interesting/important thing about who we are, and that our bodies are worthy of respect regardless if they fit the mold of the current beauty ideals.
Y'all realise that you’re supposed to be uncomfortable when we talk about transmisogyny right? I don’t do this shit to make you happy, it’s the hard truth that trans women are hurting, and dying, and if that makes you “too uncomfortable” then good, cause you need to face the consequences of your actions, transmisogynist.
Also, when I start talking about transmisogyny, and you start talking over me, or making excuses for it, or you try to change the subject? You are part of the problem
**no group is exempt from this post, this is not just about cis people, trans people can be and often are transmisogynistic too**
The amount of times I’ve been talked over or ignored while talking about transmisogyny is in the thirties, the amount of time people have got angry at me for “making the uncomfortable” is in the hundreds, all by people who get into ace, transmisandry and transmed discourse all day, it’s almost as if it’s “too uncomfortable” when it’s hurting trans women, and you don’t wanna admit you’re part of the problem
Being uncomfortable is a normal part of finding out you hurt people everyday
